November 11 – 15, 2020

Artist studios, galleries and collectors' homes fill this trip to Durham and Raleigh, NC. Visits include the home and studio of JRA Distinguished Artist Eric Serritella, and a downtown gallery tour in Durham.

Tentative Itinerary

Wednesday, November 11
Arrive in Raleigh/Durham at 21c Museum Hotel
6:30pm: Welcome Dinner

Thursday, November 12
9:00am: Private tour of 21c Museum Hotel collection
10:30am: Collectors Steve Burke and Randy Campbell will welcome you to their home, with its collection of about 1200 miniature American folk art buildings, featured in the N.Y. Times and a recent documentary
11:15am: Walk to downtown galleries (6 minutes) Hillsborough Gallery of Arts and Eno Gallery
12:30pm: Collector Barbara Wells will welcome you into her home, and offer lunch, followed by a tour of her collection.
2:30pm: Francine and Benson Pilloff will welcome you to see their private collection
4:00pm: Arrive at home and studio of Pat Scull, a clay sculptor and painter
5:00pm: Visit the home and studio of JRA Distinguished Artist Eric Serritella to see his work is trompe l’oeil sculpture. After showing us his studio and work, he will host our group for dinner.

Friday, November 13
9:15am: Board the bus 
9:45am: Visit Barbara McFadyen’s jewelry studio
10:15am: Studio visit and demonstration with Theresa Arico 
11:15am: Tour the Frank Gallery in Chapel Hill, with lunch nearby.
2:00pm:  Visit Sarah B. Duke Gardens to see Patrick Dougherty installing his newest sculpture
3:30pm: Cedar Creek Gallery, a superb all-media craft gallery
6:00pm: Dinner on your own, with suggestions offered

Saturday, November 14
9:15am: Board the bus
10:00am:  JRA member Barbara Lee Smith and Joyce Watkins King will take you through their exhibit of recent works at the Meymandi Concert Hall, Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts
11:15am: Artspace, where we will have a slide presentation of Bryant Holsenbeck's environmental installations and other artwork. This will be followed by a catered lunch. Then we will tour Artspace's craft show including JRA member Sharron Parker's work and have free time to see other exhibits and studios.
2:15pm: We will see the mixed media glass studio and home of Madonna Phillips
3:30pm: View the permanent craft collection and changing exhibits of the Gregg Museum of Art & Design
6:00pm: Farewell Dinner
